Recycling Batteries

Batteries are a fantastic commodity to our lives.
They power pretty much anything from our cars, to our mobile phones, to our children’s toys. Due to the components of some batteries, they are easy to recycle and reuse.

Normal disposable batteries are often quite expensive to recycle. Fortunately, a good amount of recycling plants will accept batteries as a recyclable material.
The unfortunate thing is, the amount of money it costs to recycle them. Batteries contain several acids, in which conduct and create electricity. When the battery acid leaks, it is potentially harmful to skin and can cause minor burns.
This is why the disposal and recycling of normal disposable batteries can be expensive.

Some supermarkets and electronics shops also accept batteries to be taken to a recycling plant, so it is definitely worth checking out the places in your local vicinity, to recycle your batteries.

If this is not an option for you, it’s a great idea to invest in a battery charger. Battery chargers can be quite cheap; however for the decent machines that are going to keep your batteries running it is worth paying the extra few pounds – especially considering how much you’ll save by not buying more batteries!
Battery chargers work by simply connecting the batteries to the correct poles of the machine (just like inserted batteries into any battery operated product). The machine is then connected to an electricity source and up to an hour later, your batteries are recharged and ready to work again.

Mobile phone batteries are easily recyclable too. With many mobile phone stores allowing you to recycle your entire hand set, it is understandably easy to trade in, or recycle your mobile phone battery.
Mobile batteries are often recycled by being delivered to the manufacturer, who assess the quality of the electronics still in the product, and decide whether or not they may be implemented to be used in future products, or the same battery that is still being produced.
This saves the company a lot of money, and a lot of the energy used in producing such an item.

Car batteries are items which do not often need to be replaced, unless the battery acid inside has started to corrode the inner workings, in which case they need to be replaced.
The fantastic thing about car batteries is that if they run flat, they can easily be jump started with another car, or a car battery service will drive to your house and either replace your battery, or add some more energy to get your car moving again.

Batteries are an amazing device which adds power to many of the necessities we need today. In order to keep the earth the way it is, take care of your batteries and recycle them when possible! Talk to your local recycling plant to find out the many options for recycling batteries, recycle your mobile phone handsets, and look after your car battery to keep everything running smoothly.
