Recycling Clothing

Clothing is one of those items that are almost an enigma. They change constantly with fashion, they can be bought on impulse, or they can just be worn through completely.
Clothes can be expensive at times, and when money is low and clothes are needed, some special recycling needs to be done!

The most obvious way of clothes recycling that can be done, is simply by selling them through eBay. EBay provides a service, which allows people to bet on your clothing for a price they see fit, and then bargain with other people also interested.
This could mean that a piece of clothing that you’ve never worn before, or very rarely, could fetch a price almost double to what you have paid.
This is recycling with an incentive. Instead of wasting your money, and instead of discarding a piece of unwanted clothing (which, cannot decompose in the earth) you can possibly gain back a large portion of your money, and your trash becomes someone else’s treasure.

When you’re not looking for any money and would like to simply donate your clothing, or make some extra space in your wardrobe, it’s a great idea to give your clothing to charity.
There are several organizations which accept clothing from anyone that’s willing to give. These organizations wash the clothing, and pass them on to the needier people in your local area. Sometimes the clothes, if in great condition, are sold at an outlet store and the proceeds are donated to charity.
This is a great way to recycle your clothing, and also helping out a great cause at the same time. This can also be considered as recycling with an incentive!

Of course, if you have a child that has outgrown their clothes, and a smaller child in need of clothing simply hand them down! Some smaller children love getting a chance to wear their big brother’s or big sister’s clothing, especially if they idolize them like so many do.
This gives them an opportunity to have new clothing, and it also helps keep costs down when considering clothing for your children, and a budget.

Another great way to recycle your own clothing is to make your own alterations. If you ever think that your clothing needs revamping, why not take out the sewing kit and add your own flare to your own clothes?
It’s quite common for people to sew on beads, add extra embroidery or even iron on patches, sometimes patches declaring your love for a favourite band.
This is a great way to personalise your own clothing, and without the waste and the extra money!

Consider these ideas next time you think about tossing out your clothing or feel like you need something new and more you. These ideas can help you save some money, and also save the planet by not discarding your old unwanted clothing, which cannot decompose naturally in the earth’s soil.
