Recycling Worksite Materials

At one point or another in your life, you will come across a work site for a building, or a house, or even your own home which you have built from the ground up.

While the building of your own house may be a momentous occasion in your life, you may find that the builders and contractors themselves are not the most clean and tidy of people, and tend to leave a lot of old and disregarded worksite materials around your house after it is finished.

It is not uncommon for piles of wood, nails, and glue gun materials to be scattered around your yard. This provides you with a great opportunity to do some handy recycling, and maybe even save on a bit of cash when it comes to arts and crafts idea for not only you, but your children too.

Left over wood, of any variety is a fantastic commodity to have around the house. Whether you use it for firewood, or for a bit of patching and handy work around the house, it definitely a great idea to have some spare.
An excellent idea for left over wood from a worksite is to build a cubby-house for your children. You can even include your children in the work, and teach them about different ranges and varieties of wood, and what they’re used for. Through using the left over wood, you’re also helping the environment by not wasting the material that was taken from it in the first place.
A cubby house for the kids would provide them a place to get away, and by that, a place for you to relax!

Nails can also be reused when building that cubby house, or to leave in the garage for later use. Things like picture frames, and shelves may need to be placed on the walls of your house at some point, so having a few odd nails around the house certainly saves on money, and the waste of time in the hardware store trying to find some.

Glue gun materials, however are harder to reuse. If a vast amount of these materials are left in your worksite, it may be a good idea to contact the builders or the site foreman, as they are a lot harder to use without the proper knowledge.

Fortunately, if these materials are not wanted by the builders again, you could easily place an ad in the local paper, advertising to sell them back.

If the glue gun canisters are completely clean from any glue residue, they may be placed in the plastics section of your recycling bin.
However, they must be clean, and without any other product than glue for them to be recycled.

By reusing old worksite materials, it helps save on money, energy created by the product plants, and effort. Old worksites that may have been abandoned are a great example of finding materials that you may need; they also encourage productivity in your children if you are using those materials to help build something around the house.
